Job Title
Teaching Artist – Classical Guitar
Starting at $30/hour, with room to grow based on experience, leadership roles, and impact.
CalMuse also provides mentorship, a collaborative teaching environment, and recognition opportunities through city partnerships.
Position Overview
We are seeking dedicated and inspiring classical guitar educators to join our growing team. Teaching Artists will lead weekly private and/or group lessons for students ranging from ages 7 to 18, with an emphasis on musical growth, character development, and performance opportunities. Instruction may take place at schools, city programs, or community centers.
Key Responsibilities

Provide in-person guitar instruction aligned with CalMuse’s mission and multi-level curriculum

Foster a positive, encouraging environment where all students feel seen and supported

Prepare students for level tests, recitals, competitions, and community performances

Use provided curriculum while adapting to individual student needs and pace

Participate in CalMuse team meetings, training

Instructors should consult with CalMuse staff before sharing any concerns about a student’s performance with parents. Positive feedback and encouragement may be given freely.

Maintain consistent communication with CalMuse staff by providing monthly updates on each student’s progress, attendance, and any challenges or notable achievements.
Qualifications

A degree in classical guitar (BM, MM, DMA) or equivalent experience is preferred, but not mandatory.

Minimum 2 years of teaching experience (private or group)

Passion for equitable music education and youth development

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Flexible, collaborative, and receptive to feedback

Comfortable working with beginning to intermediate level students

Experience with culturally diverse students or Title I schools a plus
